Not to go off on the blogger, but...
Let's think about this for a minute... when you "leave Facebook" you have
two options. One is deactivate and one is DELETE. And we all understand when
you delete you leave a virtual past on FBs servers and in backups, but you
can't return to your old account... for all intents and purposes, it's GONE.
If you only deactivate, then you leave the account in limbo. Until you
delete, it won't disappear... in fact, it remains fed and healthy. Deleted
accounts eventually disappear... once they achieve an electronic half-life-
you don't know when this happens, but if anyone really wants to be done with
FB, they should DELETE the account.
For me the blogger's angst seems misplaced- they chose to set up the
account, decided what to make available, and who to friend and at the time,
should have been aware that like everything else on 'the Interwebs', anyone
who wanted to could find it.
The mini-rant reminds me of the people who leave this List, or the A&A List,
or other on-line communities and find it necessary to bid everyone
farewell... if you want to leave, you should just go. After the fact (or
before) you can e-mail the people you truly care about and let them know
privately why you made your decision, but why publicly rant about it?
Just my thoughts
Larry
