Since Steve Whitaker is somewhere between Reno and Missouri, I'll stand in
for him. this is a perfect example of why retention analysis is more than
just looking for a legal requirement. When there is no legal (statutory or
regulatory) requirement to maintain the records then you need to ask these
questions
Is there an administrative reason for retaining the record?
Is there a financial reason for retaining the record?
Is there an operational reason for retaining the record?
Is there a legal reason for retaining the record? (and since there is no
statutory or regulatory requirement is their a contractual requirement to
retain the record?)
Is there a historical reason for retaining the record?
who uses the record and for what reason? e.g. does AP need it to pay an
invoice ie you use a contractor to give the class and they are paid by how
many attend the class.
