"Classify" has a specific meaning in the federal sector. typically means is
an item top secret, secret, whatever. thus if you use the term 'classify'
when talking with someone from a sector that "classifies" records for
accessibility they may not know you mean 'categorize'
using categorize avoids any confusion. just like the IT world starting to
use the term "archive" for storage when RMs and archivists know that
"archive" means a place for items of long term historical value to an
organization.
for the projects I'm on I have generally have to do a terminology level-set
to make sure project team members understand what various terms mean.
otherwise misconceptions can take place.
