Agreed, all round - as far as reliability, social media are akin to the experiment
with the gorilla in the lecture hall: every student had a different take on what
happened.
Yesterday I chatted with a coworker who is intelligent, articulate, and highly
respected. He said he hasn't used traditional media for 10 years now,
because everytime he had inside knowledge of a story that went to the news
the published version had errors. So he relies solely upon social media and
blogs for his daily news.
I don't think he's getting a balanced or objective view of the world - but I also
think he is one of a very large minority that, for a variety of reasons, grows
daily.
