Well now... A few OBVIOUS questions here.
Were any of those on this Listserv impacted by this directly or indirectly?
I wonder if any of Google's business customers were among those impacted, or
if it was ONLY "freebie" mail accounts?
Was it JUST G-Mail or any of the Google Docs features that were impacted?
From the Google site, it appears the only impact to Google Docs would be
docs that were sent via G-Mail)
So... they say this happened bcuz of a bug in an update to their storage
software. Wonder why this update would be made in their on-line system
rather than in a dev environment first?
Glad to hear they're smart enuff to still use tape as the deep backup, even
though some of the IT pundits are poo-pooing them for it.
Interesting they said that no mail was lost, but there was a 24hr period
where nothing was delivered- and all of that was 'returned to sender'
undeliverable. I guess with private party e-mail that's okay, but anything
on subscription or similar delivery won't be re-sent. Don't know what will
happen with any banks or businesses you may have sent to a G-Mail account on
a returned message.
