Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for the response. I think there may also be a correlating
perspective in the private sector. For example, all public companies must
create records that get published to meet the requirements of the SEC.
Such records that get published to Public Sector, for whatever reason,
often get treated very differently than what a private enterprise would
deem to be "Private Records." In the Pharmaceutical Industry, it gets
even more stringent as, in addition to filing Public Operating records
with the SEC, they also have to do things like constantly publish
controlled records to agencies like the FDA. As a result, significant
investment is put into managing the creation, publishing and retention of
these types of records and the strategies for doing so are often very
different than how internal Private Records get handled.

In our own glossary, we have a definition for, both,

- a generic "Record"
- and correlating generic discipline called "Records Management"
html) that explicitly deals with the management of such a noun.

I'm wondering if there's a requirement to clearly define a Public Record
vs. a Private Record and create correlating disciplines labeled "Public
Records management" and "Private Records Management," respectively, which
would act as sub-disciplines to the generic Records Management discipline.

Anyhow, thanks again for the input.

My Best,

Frank
