I don't know about the scene down in the other hemisphere but up here in Oz
there are very strict occupational health and safety standards, and
step-stools such as http://www.reflexequip.com.au/detail.aspx?Key=19748 or
http://www.reflexequip.com.au/detail.aspx?Key=14799 meet these standards.
The step surfaces are carefully designed and non-slip, the wheels are spring
loaded so the stool sinks down and won't move as soon as you step or sit on
them.

My team use them every day.
