While I agree with the stand-alone logic that subpoenas relating to matters in 
which one is not actually a litigant might need not be kept for the same 
duration as actual litigation files, I have seen actual situations in which a 
person or entity was initially subpoened solely for information, only to then 
later be joined as a litigant.  If one is going to keep subpoenas for a lesser 
time than litigation files, one might want to wait until one has a basis to be 
confident that one will not end up joined in the litigation.
