I would question the vendor's rationale behind photocopying destruction for
the purpose of due diligence. The photos are completely useless at identifying
what's being destroyed unless you they get a close-up of the boxes' barcodes
and customer numbers, if not the actual content of the boxes. Otherwise
they're just pretty pictures of no value. The same would be true of video
footage as well.
You did the right thing by having the destruction witnessed. The charge for
the certificate seems too much like the overpriced photo at the end of the log
ride at the amusement park, except that you HAVE to buy it.
