What are the new risks that LinkedIn brings to those who participate? I am often asked to Link with someone and I am wondering what new risks this brings?

LinkIn has changed dramatically and of course ownership has changed so now its database is linked to other databases.("Oh wait, LinkedIn just sent me an email saying "No we're NOT!!" )

The overall database on each of us is added to, by those who want to know every possible thing each of us, so they can sell that info. As a vendor, I see them approaching me with your email address, background information on you, the fact that you like Bar B Que and Records Management and 'you hate paper' and so on. These new email lists are remarkably specific.

LinkIn has morphed and from reading spy novels I see how bits of information can be added together to create dangerous files. I am sure Google could have employees tasked with joining hundreds of Listserves and culling the data.

Wait did I just hear a warning klaxon at Google World. "Alert, Alert, they're onto us." .........[Shoot my internet connection just dropped!]

I am being asked to "Link" by people who possess 500 LinkedIn connections. People with no real reason to be linked except for the thrill of having the most links.

I have never filled in my LinkedIn Bio because I don't know my own password and I am embarrassed to ask LinkedIn because I have a huge amount of Links and don't know my own password.

Should corporations forbid their employees from joining anything? LinkedIn and Facebook, My Space, and so on as each is an added layer of risk. When you view them in the way that the CIA or a hacker can cull each and every fact and put them in a folder; are we making ourselves more exposed? When LinkedIn started sending me discussions from different groups based on my associates, they made me think "How do I disconnect?"

Why just this morning LinkedIn sent me an email with a photo of Miss USA holding a puppy while eating a Bar B Que Rib from Rudy's and the message "It will be okay!" [We were totally robbed last night as Miss USA should have made the Top 10 in the Miss Universe competition. USA! USA!]

As my Mother would say "Hugh, you are too smart for your own good!" (It was typically followed by a smack!) Until now I never understood that!

"Oh wait...... LinkedIn is sending me a new Listserve connection for people who have interests in Bar B Que, NIRMA, ARMA, Puppies, Antique Cars, belong to the Southwest Airlines Frequent Flyer Club and are UT Alumni. Oh joy, they are telling me I can take my puppy on Southwest Flights now and add points to the Alumni Club when I attend "South by Southwest" next week. YES!!"

It's all good. Or is it?
