Greetings from 'Famously Hot' Columbia, South Carolina!

I am avid listserv lurker and rarely contribute to this list. It seems appropriate to re-introduce myself. I am responsible for the administration, development and implementation of record and information management programs, policies and procedures for SCANA Corporation and its subsidiary companies. I have had this role at SCANA for seven years. I love my job and learn something new about RIM or company operations each day. SCANA Corporation is 160 old, Fortune 500 energy-based holding company principally engaged, through subsidiaries, in electric and natural gas utility operations and related businesses.

I would like to know more about the record declaration process that is used by members when declaring records that are to be retained as 'Permanent or Life of Corporation'. Currently, our ERMS is IBM Filenet Records Manager. If security and integrity of the records can be maintained for these records in the existing repositories in which they reside and furthermore, are not subject to any purge routines or other automated destruction policies, is there any advantage to use resources to migrate permanent records to the ERMS (e.g. from a file share, Sharepoint, other document mgt application).

Thanks in advance for your insights and replies!
Michael Levey
Corporate Records Supervisor
