Ginny, thanks for the bright note! I didn't mean to tarnish all vendors. The
vast majority are, like yourself, very up front and reputable. In one case,
the owner of the company thanked me for helping him straighten things out
after an extended period of overcharges, and improved his business as a
result (I wasn't the only one facing problems; only the most persistent). In
another, the owner threatened me personally if I didn't pay the bill, which
was based on his last property tax statement and not on the service we had
actually bought (he had "friends in high places").

Its all over the map, and, as you can see from my previous posting, some
have been real doozies. And not all were private for profit companies. Some
of the most egregious have been other governments charging us for a service,
and non-profits.

Bottom line: detailed billings knowledgeably reviewed keeps it honest.
