Lois,
I am an Executive Assistant to a Commercial Records Center owner. A little
known secret in the industry is that you can negotiate the excessive
perm-out fees. Call the records center and demand they reduce the exorbitant perm out fees, without a contract extension, tell them you may
even post their box hostage schedule on every review site you can find. If
you're successful have them send you the revised schedule in writing.
Then, contact other records centers and tell them how many boxes you
have and that you add 1,000 boxes a year. This will give you a lot of
leverage! Tell the prospective new company that you want them to pay
your perm out fees by crediting your account the equivalent amount in
monthly storage fee credits. This of course only works if your company will
absorb the upfront cost of paying the box hostage ransom at a reduced
rate. And of course negotiate the perm out charges on the new contract.
