We need only an English language based system. These records have been reviewed by an R&D committee for relevance and other documents are in the process of being purged.
Thanks,
Cathy

Subject: Re: Electronic Data Storage/Retrieval Software

Greetings Cathy,

You asked "I have been asked to find a software product for storage and retrieval that is user friendly for the engineers and managers, as well reasonably priced."

I note you're with Saint-Gobain NorPro, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain. Do you need a multi-lingual system?

Also, this may be beyond the scope of your assignment, but (a) has anyone in the company actually performed a cost-benefit analysis of this project, and (b) have the "paper archives" been reviewed to ensure that records having exceeded their retention period have been purged (I'm assuming you HAVE records retention schedules)?

Best regards,

Frederic J. Grevin, Vice-President

Hello,

I am a solo working in a corporate setting and this message, originally posted to the Solo List, has been redirected to the Records Management List at the suggestion of a helpful colleague.

Original message:

Our company is in the process of reducing its paper archives. We are hiring someone from a temp agency to scan documents that have been stored in R&D vaults, filing cabinets, etc. for many years.

If anyone has undertaken a similar project and can recommend a particular product/company, please let me know.

I have checked the archives but have not found a response particular to my question. This is a first-time project so any additional advice members would like to contribute will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
