As others have noted a lot goes into what salary level to expect. A $100k
salary in Iowa is not going to be the same $100K in NYC
this site gives a general idea.
http://swz.salary.com/costoflivingwizard/layoutscripts/coll_start.aspx

a second thing to consider if one is evaluating a job posting would be "is
this a new position in the company, or is it to replace someone leaving?"
In either case one can negotiate. with the former they may not be aware of
current market pricing, for the latter they already have a current salary
in place and one would have to convince them that a higher salary is
justified.

but salary is not everything, one needs to consider the total compensation
package. Vacation will be you starting at the bottom or will they grant you
vacation commiserate with what you are leaving behind? Is there a bonus
package and how is it calculated and awarded? Are stock options granted?
Will relocation be paid if you have to move to a new location? Is
telecommuting available? Do they pay for cellphone? internet access?
