We use Cintas for our Records Management facility, and destroy about 3,000
boxes a year. The amount spent on shredding service does not reach a
threshold where I would need to formally bid and contract with a vendor, so I
do not have a particle size requirement. Per Washington State rules (WAC 434-
640-020) confidential records disposal shall be that of reducing the records to
an illegible condition. For my purposes I believe a 5/8 by 2 inch particle size
does that. I realize others have quite different standards. The shredding is
done on-site, and I witness the destruction.
