Hi Alice. I am not and have never been a proponent of using optical media
for organizations' record copy storage. Nevertheless, I have stored
backups of ARMA and ICRM files (word docs, excel files, powerpoint from
later years), as well as family/friends photos on CDs for some twenty two
years. I can access the CDs/documents and view them with no problem. All
of them.
Further, I have music CDs going back into the decade of the 80's. They
play fine.
For both the records and the music I do use jewel cases and keep them in
the house, or now my 'office' bldg. I built at my place in Missouri. I do
not provide consistent temps and humidity conditions either. I will say I
have more respect for the media now than I did back then, for record
purposes.
