Folks,

I think my original poorly worded question was taken perhaps as a criticism of the content and was not taken as I meant it (it was ambiguous). I know we are an international community and I am always interested in what other countries are thinking and doing in the records area. What I was trying to ask was "was there something similar released in the U. S. that might be reflected in or that drove the Philippine change in retention periods". The Philippines have long been one of our strategic partners and sometimes their best business practices are a reflection of ours. I was wondering if I had missed some sort of U. S. release on this issue. My University went to the 10 year retention period some years back at the (um) request of our auditors but I don't know if this has been codified in U. S. law or regulation. Dick King, University of Arizona

always glad to see folks actually read the articles that I post to the
list. With regard to the relevancy, well this list has a number of
subscribers from around the world not just NorthAm. additionally many
records managers are being asked to develop records retention schedules
that are country specific. Over the years i've seen and posted numerous
articles about RM from the Philippines. I can remember years ago well
before AlG's internet webs was available trying to track down retention
requirements from foreign countries. Records management and records
retention were not terms readily understood
