Information Governance

Information Governance

At this full-day interactive seminar, a panel of experienced RIM
professionals with diverse organizational experience will discuss the
components of an effective and comprehensive Information Governance
program, including:

What is Information Governance (IG)?
What drivers exist in business and society that make Information
Governance necessary?
What are the major components of Information Governance?
IG-related legal and regulatory requirements that govern certain industries.
Privacy, security and confidentiality.
Technology and IG, including the partnership between information
managers and technologists as well as the impact of technology on IG.
The role of records management in IG.
The IG policy framework.
Creating an IG culture, e.g., obtaining sponsorship, creating
awareness, and training.
How do we get it done?

Moderator: Beth Chiaiese, CRM

Beth is the Director of Professional Responsibility & Compliance at
Foley & Lardner, LLP and is currently building an Information
Governance program for her organization.

She has been a member of ARMA International since 1988, and is a
former president of the Chicago Chapter and a former member of the
ARMA International Board of Directors.  She is a frequent speaker
regarding areas of information and risk management, and is the author
of two recent ARMA publications in the new series Information
Governance in the Legal Environment:  The Ethical and Legal
Foundations of Law Firm Records Management and Information Governance
and Lawyer and Matter Mobility.


Panelist: John Bowen

John has been Director of Archives at Cleveland Clinic, a nonprofit,
multispecialty academic medical center, since January 2013. In this
role, he oversees the efforts of the Cleveland Clinic Archives to
collect, preserve and communicate the history of the institution. John
is also leading an effort to unify and standardize the records
management programs of the Clinic.

Prior joining Cleveland Clinic, John was Manager of Corporate History
and Records Services at John Deere in Moline, Illinois. He also spent
time at Ford Motor Company Archives and the Benson Ford Research
Center at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.

A graduate of the University of Michigan School of Information, John
also has extensive experience in the hospitality industry. This
background has led to a focus on increased access, customer service
and usability.


Panelist: Komal A. Gulich, CRM, IGP

Komal is employed by FirstEnergy Service Co, a public utility in the
United States. She has worked with FirstEnergy in an Information
Management (and now governance) role for over 32 years. She works in
the Records & Information Compliance Department and is the Manager,
Enterprise Records Management, and has held this role since 2005. In
her current role she manages all aspects of the information retention
program for FirstEnergy - this includes the utility's fossil and
nuclear generation plants, all subsidiaries and corporate offices.

Komal's information governance experience covers - Strategic Planning;
Electronic Information Management; Records Management (private
sector), Compliance, Information Governance, E-Mail Management,
E-discovery, Litigation Support; Policy & Procedures, Customer
Service, Cross Function Collaboration, System Conversions,
Micrographics, and Warehouse Management.

Her management skill set includes Project Management; Team Building
and Collaboration; Communication and Dialogue; Budget Management;
Business Planning; Leadership; Coaching/Mentoring.

Komal has been a Certified Records Manager since 1998, an Information
Governance Professional since 2013 and is a graduate of Michigan State
University.

Komal is also the Chair of the Board and Immediate Past President of
ARMA International. She has been a member of ARMA International
serving at various levels within the organization from a chapter
perspective, industry specific groups, regional and international
levels for over 21 years.


Panelist: Jane Connerton, CRM

Jane has over 25 years of experience in the field of Records and
Information Management. She is the Corporate Records Manager for
Procter & Gamble, a major consumer products company headquartered in
Cincinnati, Ohio, with offices in over 80 countries.   She has
launched and operated programs in Retention Scheduling, e-Records
Guidelines, micrographics, e-Discovery, and standardizing and
enforcing compliance with global policies and procedures. She's
currently revamping the Research & Development records services to
centralize and electronically deliver the most critical upstream
intellectual property coming from 22 R&D facilities world-wide, while
launching a document management schema. Additionally, she consults
with various divisions on how to improve information creation and flow
for higher efficiency, and reduced liability. In addition to 25 years
of active membership in ARMA, she's very proud of her team that won
ARMA's Award for Overall Program Excellence in 2005 and the Cobalt
award for Records and Information Management Excellence in 2010.
