one can also search the listserv archives for postings where RAIN is in the
subject line.
now following on with LM's suggestions. here is a link to several stories
related to the Morgan Stanley v Coleman case

another good story to research is Zubulake v UBS

in that litigation MS was sanction because they had told the judge they had
delivered everything requested when they hadn't.
as for Andersen it wasn't a case of keeping things to long but rather for
not issuing a hold notice when they knew litigation was possibly forthcoming

story about RJReynolds

New York Times 01/20/02
Tobacco industry in fight to get universities'
datahttp://www.nytimes.com/2002/01/20/health/20TOBA.html

by Greg Winter
The nation's biggest tobacco companies are demanding more than a
half-century's worth of documents, notes and personal files from 10
universities, setting off a debate over the limits of academic freedom and
the confidentiality of scholarly research.
As part of their defense in the Justice Department's lawsuit against them,
tobacco companies like Philip Morris and R. J. Reynolds first subpoenaed the
records late last year, trying to glean an inside look at government-financed
research on smoking that goes back to the 1940's.

rather than focusing on horrors related to keeping records too long,
consider gathering stories that show what happens when RM policies and
procedures are not followed in the ordinary, everyday course of business.
