Personal Digital Archiving: The Basics of Scanning | The Signal: Digital Preservation Although the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program <http://digitalpreservation.gov/?loclr=blogsig> and the National Digital Stewardship Alliance<http://www.digitalpreservation.gov/ndsa/?loclr=blogsig>focus on digital preservation and access, many of the personal digital archiving questions that the general public ask us are about scanning. Though scanning is a separate issue from digital preservation, scanning does generate digital files that need to be preserved. In the interest of helping people create the best possible digitization of their photos and documents for preservation<http://www.nedcc.org/free-resources/preservation-leaflets/6.-reformatting/6.6-preservation-and-selection-for-digitization>, we have produced a "how to" video that we will be releasing soon. In the meantime here is a brief, basic introduction to scanning that we hope will demystify the process. http://1.usa.gov/1gwfjtF Source: http://blogs.loc.gov/digitalpreservation/2014/03/personal-digital-archiving-the-basics-of-scanning/ See if people are clicking on this link: http://1.usa.gov/1gwfjtF+ Try the bitly.com sidebar to see who is talking about a page on the web: http://bitly.com/pages/sidebar -- Peter Kurilecz CRM CA IGP [log in to unmask] Dallas, Texas Save our in-boxes! http://emailcharter.org http://twitter.com/RAINbyte http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/RAINbyte/ http://paper.li/RAINbyte/rainbyte http://pinterest.com/pakurilecz/archives/ http://pinterest.com/pakurilecz/records-management/ http://www.linkedin.com/in/peterakurilecz Information not relevant for my reply has been deleted to reduce the electronic footprint and to save the sanity of digest subscribers List archives at http://lists.ufl.edu/archives/recmgmt-l.html Contact [log in to unmask] for assistance To unsubscribe from this list, click the below link.
