RMs are increasingly taking on more responsibility outside of the
traditional records role and are no longer just following a paper record
through its life-cycle.  RMs are now designing electronic information
systems, going beyond retention schedules to add privacy & security
elements, liaising between senior executives, translating terms between
legal & IT, but are still are expected to oversee traditional records
operations.  Hence IG.
