As Barbara indicated, retention is media neutral.
However, in almost all contexts, you have the ability to declare the digital copy as the record copy and destroy the hardcopy version with no respect to retention period.
There are really these two issues in your question.

Joseph,  why would you want to do that?   It goes against every records management principle that I know.   It's the "content not the media"  that you are trying to management.
