I think it depends on how much field work you want to do. If you want work hard and detailed, you must think on a one year project or more for organizations up to 1000 employees (I don't know the size of your organization). If you want only a general definition of each unit fileplan and basic retention periods, without entering in acces criteria and other details about records series, and you previously define a centralized business classification scheme (from wich you derive the fileplans), a project of 6 months I think would be enough.

Probably if you use in your records management system design techniques like series mapping, you would always keep updated the overall fileplan of your organization with less effort.

Tema: File plan & retention schedules

Has anyone had any experience updating retention schedules and/or building
a fileplan for an organization? We currently are managing quite a few
retention schedules for the various areas. I'm looking to find the
estimated timeframe, I'm thinking 10-14 months but am looking to see if
that's the norm or if anyone has done it in a shorter timeframe?

Thanks for your time.
