Uncluttering offices: What will be of the archives? - The Economic Times
Anyone walking through the corridors of the Indian state will see their
walls have ears and their corners tongues. And walking, nose covered, past
the drafts of sheer foulness between the sachivalayaand shauchalaya
name-boards, see racks of varied vintage and disrepair, bulging with files.
These brave repositories not just swell with files, they drip, ooze, pour
files.

Files fastened in tape, files clasped in folders, files worn by age, files
torn by rough handling, files flattened by the weight of what lies above
them, files choking with their adipose, live and grow in those shelves.
These are, in office parlance, "active files", quite distinct from their
ancestors stored in record rooms.
