I did some research on this for a client and this is what I was told by a consultant to the security industry: 

When an incident is recorded that is to be used for evidence, it is placed on a master tape/in a master file with an indefinite retention (subject to deletion after the conclusion of the matter). I'm not in the business myself so don't shoot the messenger but wanted to pass along that tidbit. The longest retention period I could find for CCTV was a NARA reference to 6 months. If the recording documents an incident, then would it not be wise to retain it until the statute of limitations runs out on the ability to make a claim?

Just my two cents. If the current retention is 120 days for recordings that document incidents that may lead to claims, does that mean they are destroyed after 120 days?  I would think the retention may be better at 120 days for recordings that document incidents that don't lead to claims.
