>> So there will be no cost incentives for requiring employees to purge their data<<

How about efficiency...I think that employee email archives are the equivalent of a sock drawers. Unless you have all day to find a pair of socks, you take the time to eliminate the those without a mate, with holes in the heal, or those very colorful ones you receive each Christmas from your favorite sister. Doing so makes it quite simple to accomplish the task at hand.

Now think about how ridiculous it would be to get a 100 new socks every day and just throw them in the gigantic sock drawer. Trying to find the pair that matches the blue slacks my wife wants me to wear would be just about impossible. Certainly it would take far longer than it would if I were to just manage the sock collection even minimally.

The leadership team is requesting answers from employees every day. Their ability to quickly and efficiently provide accurate, timely information is hampered by the employees need to dig through a massive collection of unneeded, unnecessary and duplicate information.

Consider the benefit if each employee were to gain even 10 minutes of productivity every week? 80,000 employees x 10 minutes x 52 weeks @ 50.00/hr = $ 34,000,000 enhanced productivity or equal to adding an additional 320 employees at slightly over $100,000 per year.

It might be a cost incentive to some...
