Thank you Peter.  I am conducting a records inventory very soon.  I should be able to (hopefully) work with legal to come up with a more comprehensive schedule.

I'm not surprised that some HR records are missing and I suspect others are not listed. Why? Attorneys (bless their hearts) tend to look at only the law and regulations to see what they require to be maintained. They also don't know how the records are maintained by an organization which is why many attorney-generated retention schedules tend to be a listing of document types eg applications, resumes etc and how long to keep them.

A retention schedule needs to be developed from a records inventory, not just reviewing what the laws or regulations require.
