Good morning!  I work for an offsite record center, and will tell you that customers don't always add or have standards on information assigned to containers.  Especially over large collections that span decades.  You might be able to search through old work orders or courier forms the vendor or your company may have retained.  Those documents may contain classification information to fill in the gaps post comparison against your older inventory.

Subject: Moving Offsite Inventory to Another Vendor

Good day, my dear friends and colleagues,

I am working with 16,000+ boxes currently stored with our vendor.  And, I'm very happily finding many that have met their minimum retention!  Yeah, us!

However, I am also finding about 15% of these boxes do not have detail assigned to the box number.  Thankfully, I have several older inventories that help in this search.

I was wondering if others have had this dilemma and what you went through for a positive solution.
