Hi Dear all,

First of all I beg pardon for my bad English.
I am Fatimata a Senegalese living and working in Burkina Faso. I am following the list since 2009.

"As I feel it is so important to share knowledge." I quote Lisa to begin my mail. I feel it also important that's why I began working in knowledge management in 2013 (http://memsic.ccsd.cnrs.fr/mem_01002508/fr/). The report is written in french. As a novice at this field, I would like to be mentored by someone. I think that it would help me to make use of the numerous publications and experiences.

Thank you in advance.

Fatimata DIALLO

Objet : Mentors

Greetings ListServ,

Continuing the Friday pondering question...

First on my list of mentors is my current boss, Anchal Gupta, who gave me a tremendous opportunity in the RM field for hiring me. Although, she is not a Records Manager, she guides me on how to be a better manager and is great at thinking strategically. She also supports me fully in developing professionally within the field. This is invaluable.

Second on my list, is Susan Press, who is also not a Records Manager, but a Librarian. Without her constant support and encouragement, I may have not changed fields from library to records management. And as an aside, I am very glad I made the switch.

Third, I have Beth Maser, a former supervisor, to thank who saw my strengths and recommended a career in Records Management. Even as a Librarian, I never thought about this field until it was brought to my attention.

Lastly, I would have to say that the ListServ has been a great source of knowledge. I consider each person who responds to my posts a mentor of sorts.

Since, I am new to the field...I am currently looking for a mentor who does records management/information governance. As you see all of my mentors are not in the field. If anyone out there would like to volunteer to mentor me, it would be so appreciated. I plan on taking the CRM eventually and would love to have someone that has been through the process. I am in Washington, DC, if there is anyone local that would be fantastic. If you are interested, let me know. I promise not to take up too much of your time.

I hope to one day mentor someone just starting out in the field. As I feel it is so important to share knowledge.

Best,
Lisa
