As noted I did purchase Robert Smallwood's new book on managing electronic
records. Before I give you my thoughts, a couple of caveats:
1. I was an IMERGE consultant for several years, c. 2004-2007. I don't
think Robert and I ever worked on the same project but we certainly
exchanged thoughts and ideas on a number of occasions.
2. My opinions are my own and do not reflect those of any employer, past,
present, or future.
3. I was not paid, given a discount, or otherwise compensated for the book
or my thoughts thereunto pertaining. I bought the books because I'm a CRM,
and an industry professional, and I believe in ongoing professional
development from whatever sources provide it effectively.

I bought two books written by Robert via Amazon, both published in the
Wiley CIO series, on info gov and on managing electronic records. I have
not yet read the former but did go through the latter cover to cover. It's
very comprehensive and I like the use of subject matter experts for
particular chapters - Charles Dollar and Lori Ashley for digital
preservation, Barb Blackburn for taxonomy, Monica Crocker for SharePoint
governance, etc. I also thought the use of endnotes was of significant
value. And as another indicator, the foreword is by Robert Williams of
Cohasset Associates and the co-chair of the Managing Electronic Records
(MER) conference.

I had some minor quibbles throughout regarding some of the endnotes' value
and other bits here and there but overall I think it is quite valuable and
look forward to going through the IG book as well. I can recommend it with
confidence as a good introductory to intermediate textbook on electronic
records management.
