Hello all. This is my first post to the list so an introduction is in order. My name is Marianna Symeonides, and I am quite new to the RM field, having only worked in it for about one and a half years. I work at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, where I consult with and providing training to local government and state agency records management programs.

I was one of the people in the Twitter discussion. I have created a Storify of the Twitter conversation to make it easier to read and to share. It can be viewed here: https://storify.com/sharkivist/discussion-of-records-management-profession

I just wanted to add a couple of points of clarification:
-When I said that a digital archivist requires "more specialized" training, I did not mean more training, full stop. I suppose what I actually meant was "overlapping yet slightly different training." I apologize for my error.
-Additionally, most of my frustration and that of other new professionals stems from the fact that professional development, in the form of certifications (and conferences, though that did not come up in the Twitter conversation) is expensive for those of us who are just starting out in the field and/or who work in the public sector. I think we all agreed that *entry* to the profession is not as difficult as, say, entry into the archives profession - but advancing beyond entry-level, or finding a job above entry-level when one possesses a master's degree in information or library science, seems challenging. Additionally, those of us who have a MSIS (or similar) wonder - does our degree mean much in the RIM field? When someone hiring for RIM jobs sees "MSIS" after a name but not "CRM" or, in the coming years, "IGP," will that limit our chances of finding meaningful employment?

Thank you everyone for your responses so far. I hope to respond more fully to them outside of business hours, on my own time.

Regards,

Marianna Symeonides
