Vermont - End the privatization of public records

The PSB, the state's utility regulators, contracts a private company to
produce transcripts of proceedings before the board.

"It doesn't make a whole lot of sense," state Auditor Doug Hoffer told the
Free Press. "Under the current system, the PSB has no control over what
stakeholders and the public pay for copies of these official government
records."

The transcripts would be available to the members of the Public Service
Board, but members of the public, including those who are party to a case
before the regulators, would have to visit the PSB office in Montpelier to
read a copy or pay a private company for the documents.
