Within the in-house legal community, there's a lot of discussion on this -- many lawyers advocate for getting rid of everything that isn't the final agreement and others strongly believe in retaining, as a convenience copy, the materials which are created during negotiation to demonstrate what the parties intended. I'm firmly in the second camp, but I also strongly believe that those documents are not final business records but are convenience copies, kept for the convenience of the lawyer and any lawyer following them on a project.

Subject: Draft versions of contracts

Hello everyone,

I would appreciate your feedback as to whether you retain draft versions of contracts as records, or only the final version, and the reason behind it.

Thank you in advance for your response.

Regards,

Madeleine
