Considering where I'm from and the costs involved in attending ARMA conferences, I've only missed two conferences since 1989 (Toronto & Boston). For the sake of comparison, here's my favorite ARMA conference venues and worst:

Favorite:
New Orleans '89 (It was quaint then, no casinos)
Seattle (nice compact conference venue)
Nashville (Nice venue, good overall accommodations)

Honorable mention:
Montreal (if not for 9/11, this would have been one of the absolute best...Great hospitality & organization)
San Antonio (The river walk and the proximity of the hotels was good)

Worst:
Detroit: (lousy weather, those Hyatt towers were in a bad part of town & had to take "people mover" to Cobo Hall) Pretty scary place.
Long Beach: Once the naval base closed, that place went downhill
Houston: Mario and his group ruined the conference with the Grand Prix race held...Despite the "accommodation" made to have Mario speak, it didn't make up for crossing the racetrack to/from the convention center

Just missed:
Baltimore...The inner harbor area has become a "combat zone" and it was a bit unsafe for some. We had a colleague get jumped and had to fight off 3 thugs... and he did...Thank heavens!

Before anyone blasts me, this was just my opinion based upon the overall educational experience and venue...I'm sure each of us had our favorites.

Have a great weekend!

Brian
