The records mgmt. profession missed the boat when advanced electronic
information technology and management potential came along. I/T captured
the influence and budget dollar$$. Took us a long time to recognize the
opportunity we missed and move in the right direction with technology.
Back in the 80s and early 90s I had arguments with RM folks I liked and
respected..., who in my opinion..., were way too comfortable with where the
profession WAS and not willing to stick their toe out and make some
changes.

IG is not SIM, it is not knowledge mgmt, it is not re-branding RIM, etc.
RIM is moving into a larger arena as a crucial piece of IG. We are either
a part of it or we choose to stay at the dock when the ship sails...; stay
on the porch as a shy puppy while the big dogs go out to play..., and
define the stakes and receive the budget dollars..., as we have so many
times in the past.

Although I do not hold a high office, I have a voice with some at the
highest levels of our profession and associated professional associations
and certification organizations. I support our participation in IG; at the
big table. Having said that, at Las Vegas last year I saw many
presentations ostensibly as IG info...; but wondered where the hell was the
actual IG content; and I provided feedback. I also provided input that if
ARMA did not provide 101 and 201 level training on RIM..., that somebody
else would. I saw some positive changes in the content at San Diego.

IG is not rebranding RIM. RIM is an important part of a larger arena in
which our profession must claim a seat at the table.

I hate paper...

Best regards, Steve
