While the Liquor Board became a more engaged and accountable agency in
2014, new staff and appointments have only taken the agency so far in
achieving its reform goals.

That’s one conclusion from Michelle Bailey-Hedgepeth’s report to the state
joint audit committee, in which she asked for a one-year audit extension.

Bailey-Hedgepeth, the board’s executive secretary, told the committee in a
letter that “issues that are tied to automation improvements are still
under way and will not be completed until summer 2015.”

"The problems of our economy have occurred not as an outgrowth of
laissez-faire, unbridled competition.
They have occurred under the guidance of federal agencies, and under the
umbrella of federal regulations."
Senator Ted Kennedy, in defending trucking deregulation in 1978.
