Subject: [archives] RFI: state digital archives costs
To: "Archives & Archivists (A&A) List" <[log in to unmask]>

I'm attending a budget hearing for the Texas State Library and Archives
Commission today, and the head of the budget committee asked for some
detail concering costs of preserving and providing state electronic
records.

I'll be giving public testimony in a couple of hours in support of the
agency's budget request, and I wanted to see if I could add some
information to answer his questions. Any help appreciated!

What state archives have implemented a digital archives program for state
electronic records? I'm familiar with a few, including Washington and
Oregon.

The Texas State Archives has requested $900,000 for the biennium to develop
a Digital Archives program, starting with 3 (medium-small) agencies.
Scaling up (which seems to be what the committee chair is worried about),
this would mean something like $25.5 million per year for all of the state
agencies, assuming that ther are about the same size/complexity of the
first three, which definitely not the case).

For any states with established digital archives, do we know what the
program cost per year is?
