We have a 90 day policy and there is no recovery.  90 days and zap.
So legally cannot say why recovery this and not that - no exceptions.

Employees have 90 days to post to a project pertinent and emails they feel are worth retaining.
The posted emails are posted as per our policy and following the posting procedures the email is placed into a folder which is protected and no one has write access too, to modify emails or accidentally delete.  And these posted emails are kept forever, being archived with the project.

But we are a private engineering firm.
Gov't org, public org, medical may be required to do other by law and etc...
