Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity in the Global Operations Center in Wheeling, WV for a Data Management Specialist I in the Records department.

The Data Management Specialist I position is a non-exempt position that under direct supervision will perform electronic data/information tasks.  Primary duties will include:  incoming and outgoing data transfers, electronic data disposition efforts (including file share content, email migration and disposition, email archives, etc.), and maintaining and updating information in a tracking database.  This position will also work closely with the eDiscovery and Litigation Services Department on data-related tasks.  This position will report directly to the Regional Records Manager responsible for data management.  The Manager eDiscovery Support Services will provide on-site supervision and support.

Responsibilities:
•       Under the direction of the Regional Records Manager, support projects and initiatives that require the identification, organization, migration and import/export activities related to electronic files.
•       Understand and apply records management principles and knowledge of lifecycle management to any projects or initiatives related to electronic file/data management.
•       Collaborate with managers, staff, lawyers, and other stakeholders to apply data/information lifecycle management principles to integrate data with existing systems, clean-up legacy data based on firm-established policies and procedures and ensure data integrity during all phases of the data lifecycle.
•       Provide and apply quality assurance best practices for data management/analysis services across the firm.
•       Log all data transfers, migrations, deletions or other transfer activities into the appropriate database.  Assign appropriate priority, input resolution detail and follow-thru until the task/project has been completed.
•       Follow established procedures for the tracking and monitoring of data management activities for 1) compliance monitoring and 2) capturing relevant metrics.
•       Respond to, diagnose/troubleshoot and ultimately resolve data management performance issues.  Work collaboratively with the Regional Records Manager to appropriately identify and address priorities.
•       Collaborate with cross-departmental colleagues to administer the departure of user accounts, deletion of mailboxes and vaults; works with the Manager, eDiscovery Support Services for approvals.
•       As needed, create and update documentation on processes, configuration and procedures related to data transfers, litigation holds, other tasks and workflow.
•       Participate in the research, development, selection and configuration of software solutions to support workflow including enhancements and new products.
•       Identify and propose solutions or process improvements (fixes/alternative work flows) to address any performance issues or other inefficiencies.
•       Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
•       Associates’ or Bachelor’s degree from recognized college or university, or three to five years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•       Flexibility to work effectively both individually and with both on-site and remote teams.
•       An understanding of and experience with Microsoft Windows/Office utilities/applications.
•       Familiarity with document management systems and other collaborative technology solutions (such as SharePoint, Box, etc.).
•       An aptitude/ability to quickly learn new technologies and data management principles.
•       Project management experience.
•       Familiarity with desktop hardware and portable media/storage devices.
•       General understanding of computer networks.
