The event mentioned by others is known as the Second Defenestration of
Prague :-)

Louis XIV had an official mistress, the Marquise de Montespan, who was
well known for her jealousy and temper. When Louis started an affair
with a much younger woman, Montespan was strangely calm and collected
about the whole thing. But then Montespan's pet bears (yup, bears) just
"happened" to find the other woman's apartment and tear it to bits!

Montespan was also accused of using black magic to win the King's
affection, in a scandal known as The Affair of the Poisons. It's a very
bizarre episode in French history, and I wrote my undergraduate thesis
on it.
