In fairness a certification should be designed to allow a candidate to
demonstrate existing expertise. Studying/preparing really should be just a
review of the body of knowledge to ensure the candidate has familiarity
with *everything* on the exam. I've passed a number of certifications
without studying or preparing for them - because I had the experience and
knowledge being tested by the certification.
This is not the forum to have an in-depth discussion of certification and
credentialing because, frankly, it's a highly technical topic on its own. I
have written about this topic in-depth in the past and it looks like it's
time to address it again so that the discussion remains germane and
professional.
