This article is misleading at best and dangerously deceptive at worst.
The December 31, 2019 M-12-18 deadline DOES NOT require that ALL agency records to be kept in an electronic format as the author states so emphatically. The requirement is very clearly limited to PERMANENT agency records, a much smaller percentage of an agency's total corpus of information. This is what happens when product vendors disguise sales collateral as 'informative industry news.'
Ironically, these are the same marketers and sales people who, 10 years ago, declared the centuries-old records management discipline dead in favor of a new 'profession' nobody could accurately define. That 'new profession' resulted in a tremendous spike in 'information governance product' sales as they intended, but also the information lifecycle management chaos that every organization is seeing today.
Now these same vendors are trying to profit from the records management chaos they helped create?
