The National Archives and Records Administration's "Remembering Vietnam" exhibit opens November 10, 2017. It draws on archival Federal and Presidential records. some acquired through the records management process, some through donation, and oral history interviews. If you are in Washington between November 10, 2017 and January 6, 2019, consider visiting our exhibit in the Lawrence F. O'Brien Gallery of the National Archives Museum. It provides good examples of the value of using multiple sources, including contemporaneous records and later reflections, to show diverse perspectives on complex issues. https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.archives.gov_exhibits_currently-2Don-2Dexhibit-2Dremembering-2Dvietnam&d=DwIBaQ&c=pZJPUDQ3SB9JplYbifm4nt2lEVG5pWx2KikqINpWlZM&r=b5NZPQUb9_r2rQ3Zd74ATT3aSs9yKyRnJLOhqJvd7fE&m=jfnRoegVIeObZzEVgO5UCoEVxqePfm45foNG3fk5It0&s=YCvFm0gKHRHkWHBSRrVRzyjvHptDZxCUtvLopIQZw-o&e= You can find our NARA calendar of related events here: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.archives.gov_calendar&d=DwIBaQ&c=pZJPUDQ3SB9JplYbifm4nt2lEVG5pWx2KikqINpWlZM&r=b5NZPQUb9_r2rQ3Zd74ATT3aSs9yKyRnJLOhqJvd7fE&m=jfnRoegVIeObZzEVgO5UCoEVxqePfm45foNG3fk5It0&s=nWNlmeWqFC0X78YCoAZj6wum7eon7GC_vcJFEleVe2A&e= As noted earlier, I'll be working some of the NARA events on November 10, Veterans Day holiday observed. If you are in Washington during the Veterans Day weekend this year, you also can see three Vietnam era helicopters on display at NARA November 7-November 12, 2017. For a fascinating account of how research in archival records at NARA revealed information about medals due to Vietnam veterans, including two Silver Stars that Jerry Horton received belatedly in 2000, see https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.shakenbakesergeant.com_NationalArchives.pdf&d=DwIBaQ&c=pZJPUDQ3SB9JplYbifm4nt2lEVG5pWx2KikqINpWlZM&r=b5NZPQUb9_r2rQ3Zd74ATT3aSs9yKyRnJLOhqJvd7fE&m=jfnRoegVIeObZzEVgO5UCoEVxqePfm45foNG3fk5It0&s=q958MA3dJKp7y4VV8ghUsLp3wQKYYHKE4TjhNFB-j6Q&e= A similar story is included in our "Remembering Vietnam" exhibit.
