First, there's an article that says the US Government is considering using
Google's Cloud Offerings because they are creating a "Government Specific
Cloud"... but everything that's been published about what makes cloud
computing so effective and allows it to save costs is the use of all of a
provider's assets and capacities on an as-needed basis for primary storage
AND for backups, replicated or mirrored storage.

Now, much of Google's computing and storage infrastructure is outside of the
US- which was part of the concern expressed by the City of Los Angeles and
that required special agreements to ensure none of their content went
abroad. What guarantees will the Government get that their (Ooops! I meant
OUR!!) data will stay onshore??

THEN, there's another article about how the Energy and Commerce Committee is
very concerned about not only Google's collection of WiFi network data while
gathering input for their street view feature associated with Google Maps,
but their handling of the situation once they knew it was happening.

And part of the concern included these quotes:

"We are concerned that Google did not disclose until long after the fact
that consumers' Internet use was being recorded, analyzed and perhaps
profiled," the lawmakers wrote. "In addition, we are concerned about the
completeness and accuracy of Google's public explanations about this matter."

So is this a firm that they are going to be willing to trust to properly
manage who knows how much Federal data in a cloud scenario?
