Hi Lindsay,

BC Municipal Act and what it says about Records management within Municipalities.
Quick look shows that it is difficult to understand who is responsible with Courtenay BC for Records Management and Freedom of Information issues. Also.
I think you have now experience in dealing with Electronic Records, that gives you certain credit.
You can also ,think about redesigning of the City's website.
Check the status of the City, it is possible that it is part of Region and the Region is responsible for the Records and Information Management.
Who is responsible for Archives? It could be local Library, Museum, or ??? Tourist Office.

Only some ideas.

Regards,

Alex Babin,

Hello, my name is Lindsay, and I will be graduating from UBC with my MAS in just a couple of weeks. I am moving to a small city (Courtenay BC, about 40,000 people) and would like some advice on how to approach the City Records Manager about doing some work experience/unpaid internship.

My work experience so far has focussed on archives (university, museum and art gallery), so I am coming into RM with only the theorhetical skills learned in class. I would like to learn more about RM, and the job market definitely seems to be more active in that realm.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
