I have 2 staff right now that are on alternating 9/80 schedules (which
is what I am assuming is what you are talking about when you refer to a
4 day week). The main advantage is less commuting - one employee in
particular has a considerable distance to drive. Another advantage is
longer hours of coverage due to the 9 hour shifts. And, of course, the
employees like it. We've had occasional challenges during conferences,
but overall the employees that are on the schedule appreciate it, and
work hard to make sure it works for the county. One concern I hear about
is a potential drop in productivity - it hasn't happened here. Overall,
I would say it has been a very positive experience for all concerned.
