After prepping for microfilm/scan and packing for reasonable accessibility,
but also including dividers or folders for batching purposes, our experience
is that a standard 1 cu ft box holds approximately 2200 sheets of medium
weight 8.5x11 paper. Before prepping, however, boxes often hold anywhere
from 1000 (loosely packed with lots of folders) to about 3000 (tightly
packed, lightweight) pages -- it all depends. Very different if logbooks or
other nonstandard media is included, obviously.

If you want to do a sample, you'll probably need to count through at least
30 randomly selected boxes.

|I need to figure out how much paper is in a shelf foot (or
|cubic foot box) for scanning purposes. Anyone know the
|formula? RM staff here has suggested we recall a box & count
|the paper but I think that's reinventing the wheel.
