This sounds familiar. I used a Fujitsu scanner in the late 1990's that
had an "endorser." It put a number on the back of each page after it was
scanned. Only use we had for it was to count what went through and see
if we fed two pages or missed one.
Now I affix a unique bar code on the first page of each document. I
create the bar codes in an inexpensive bar code label maker and print on
my printer. The bar code is read by the scanner and dropped into an
index field. This eliminates data entry error and uniquely identifies
each document. Lots more uses. Contact me off list.

How does this work to support the document recognition?

Janet,
As part of the GTEK in Ottawa this week I attended a presentation by
Fujitsu, 905-286-9666, from Mississauga, where the rep demo'd a new
scanner (for me) that adds an a number to each scanned record, could be
your solution instead of using a sticker.
This is not recommendation their product only attempting to provide you
with a solution.

In order to make our imaging process more efficient for scanning of
back file documents we would like to add a barcode to the physical
documents during the imaging process. The purpose of the bar code is to
provide the Kofax imaging solution and Content Manager a way to
determine what type of document is being scanned and to provide a way to
collect standard metadata for indexing, in order to locate the images
during the search and retrieval process.

We would like to use stickers, however, we are concerned that we are
altering the original document and we are unsure how this would be
viewed in the courts.
Does anyone out there use this type of solution?
Thanks,
