Fred,
According to the retention schedule provided to Ontario school boards by the
Education Improvement Commission (School Board Transition Handbook, Memo No.
21), the retention period for Employee/Personnel records is permanent. Here
in the Ontario government, we keep individual employee files for 50 years
after termination for pension purposes. As far as I can tell, the
Employment Standards Act is the only legislation that deals explicitly with
retention periods for employee records, but you might want to the
publications "Records Retention: Law and Practice" and "Records Retention:
Statutes and Regulations", both Carswell publications, available by
subscription, but possibly available at the university or public library in
Windsor.

Subject: employee records retention in Ontario or Canada
Is their a definitive retention period for "Employee records" who have been
terminated in Ontario or Canada. I know the "Employment Standards Act,
2000"
states three years.
However the consulting company that prepared our retention schedule in 2002
has
us keeping them for 60 years after termination.
Checking with other School Boards I have seen 2 years, 6 years, 10 years,
and
55 years after termination.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
